Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, of Kebbi state, has again reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of retired public servants spread across the state.
The governor who stated this yesterday when he played host to the National Senior Citizens Centre in the state, said his government has resolved to always extend the desired olive branch to retirees in Kebbi.
Plans to as well domesticate the National Senior Citizens Act, in the state, according to him, are as well in the pipeline.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Babale Umar Yauri, the governor drummed that “I promised that Kebbi would be the first state to domesticate the act in line with my pensioners-friendly administration.”
His administration, according to him, is “not handling any issues affecting them (pensioners) with kid gloves and we are seriously tapping from their abundant wealth of experience”
Stressing that “it was absurd to abandon the senior citizens after making invaluable sacrifices to national development” the state government, as publicly made known by him “is not owing and payment of pension is being done monthly, and the payment of salary is at when due.”

The governor went ahead to affirm that the “state government was up to date in the payment of gratuity, saying, ” said what remains is only 2022 which we will pay before the end of the year.”
Earlier, the team which was led by the Director-General of the Centre, Dr Emem Omokaro, said “if all the states in the country can emulate Kebbi, the negative narratives in some states as it affects retirees would have changed for the better.”
Believing that “investment in the older people is an investment in economic growth and development of the nation” he pleaded with the number one citizen of the state, to fashion out plans to domesticate the National Senior Citizens Act.
While commending President Mohammadu Buhari for putting the Senior Citizens on the front burner of his administration by spending his signature on the Act and as well forming the Board of the Centre, she said “I am urging Kebbi state government and other states governments to domesticate the National Senior Citizens Act.”
