The Abia State Government has closed a campaign office linked to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Partners in the heart of Umuahia. The action has stirred a fresh wave of political debate across the South East, where the structure is being championed by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
A staff member of the group said he arrived for work and met the building sealed without prior notice. He explained that no communication had been issued before the clampdown.

A notice pasted on the walls by the Ministry of Lands and Housing declared that the office violated Sections 41 and 100 of the Abia State Tax Law of 2020. The warning added that any attempt by occupants or passersby to unseal the building would amount to a breach of the law.
Calls to the phone numbers listed on the enforcement document did not go through, leaving unanswered questions about the state’s next steps and whether the group intends to challenge the action.
