A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Dr. Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, has said the defection of Governor Abba Yusuf to the ruling party has strengthened unity and deepened internal cohesion across the state chapter.
Dan’agundi, who is also Director-General of the National Productivity Centre, spoke with journalists in Kano, describing the governor’s entry into the APC as a major political development with far-reaching implications for party stability ahead of future elections.
He said Yusuf’s decision had inspired confidence among members and demonstrated what he called fairness and inclusive leadership. According to him, the governor embraced both long-standing party loyalists and new entrants without bias, setting a tone of reconciliation within the state structure.
Dan’agundi further claimed that in situations where the governor was reportedly entitled to nominate up to 60 per cent of party leadership positions, he allowed original APC members to present the majority of candidates in the interest of balance and collective progress.

“This clearly shows that we are now one united family working toward a common goal,” he said.
The APC stalwart urged members, including loyalists of former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje, to close ranks and support Yusuf as the recognised leader of the party in the state. He stressed the need for discipline and a unified command structure to guarantee stability and electoral success.
Speaking on behalf of Tinubu Support Groups in Kano, Dan’agundi pledged sustained grassroots mobilisation in support of the governor and other APC candidates in the forthcoming polls. He assured that party supporters would intensify efforts to consolidate recent gains.
He also commended party leaders in Kano Municipal for promoting cooperation and advised other local government chapters to follow suit in order to reinforce cohesion across the state.
Governor Yusuf’s defection marks a significant shift in Kano’s political landscape, with observers noting that party unity will be crucial as alignments continue ahead of the next electoral cycle.
