Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East geopolitical zone has backed the Southern Governors’ Forum that the next president of the country should come from the South.
It also directed that the existing zoning patterns in states and constituencies of the zone should be strictly observed and adhered to in all states and constituencies of the region The Trumpet gathered.
Briefing journalists after its Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) meeting in Enugu, National Vice Chairman (South East), Ali Odefa, disclosed that it was unanimously agreed that the PDP should zone the presidency to the South ahead of the party’s primary election.
The meeting was attended by leader of the party in the South East and Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, National Secretary of the Party, Sam Anyanwu, members of the state and national assemblies, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BOT), among others.
Odefa said the South East PDP resolved to back the resolution of the Southern Governors Forum that the office of the presidency should be zoned to the South. On the zoning at the state and constituency levels in the zone, Odefa said:
“We said where there are zoning patterns they must be strictly observed and adhered to in every state and constituency.”

He added: “We also intervened for our members who are holding political and elective positions in Anambra State who didn’t defect to other political parties during the governorship election but stood by the PDP that they should be supported to return to their various offices.”
He also disclosed that the zonal leadership of the party would make a case to the National Working Committee for assistance in that regard.
