The Kebbi State Caucus of the National Assembly has called for the arrest and prosecution of former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), over alleged incitement and breach of public peace in the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), flanked by two senators and members of the House of Representatives from the state, dismissed Malami’s September 10 petition accusing Governor Nasir Idris of importing political thugs, hiring foreign mercenaries, and engaging in clandestine arms deals.
Aliero described the allegations as “false, unfounded, politically motivated, and a desperate attempt by Malami to undermine Kebbi’s peace and stability.”
He accused the former minister of sponsoring violence during his recent condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi. According to him, Malami allegedly hired thugs from Sokoto, Koko, and Rara, who attacked the APC state secretariat with stones while chanting anti-Governor Idris slogans.
“This incident alone speaks volumes about who is truly attempting to sow chaos and disrupt the peace of our state,” Aliero said.
“Kebbi Remains One of Nigeria’s Most Peaceful States”
The Caucus reiterated that neither Governor Idris nor the ruling APC in Kebbi had ever been linked to terrorism or clandestine arms activities. They credited the state’s relative peace to deliberate investments in security and strong collaboration with federal agencies.
They urged security operatives to focus on genuine threats rather than partisan theatrics, insisting Malami be invited by relevant authorities to substantiate his claims.
Also speaking, Senator Garuba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South) said Malami’s petition was provocative and baseless, noting that the APC has always maintained a peaceful political culture.

“Malami’s house is less than 50 meters from our APC headquarters. If our party was violent, clashes would have happened long ago, but nothing like that ever occurred until he staged a convoy in campaign style to provoke our supporters,” Maidoki said.
He challenged the former AGF to provide evidence of arms importation, stressing that APC members reject terrorism and will never associate with banditry.
Maidoki also praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in tackling insecurity, especially banditry in Kebbi South, noting that over 100 villages previously abandoned due to attacks had been reoccupied since Tinubu assumed office.
“We still face challenges, but there has been progress, and we expect more. We reject any insinuation that Kebbi APC is connected to banditry,” he said.
The Kebbi National Assembly members reaffirmed their support for Governor Idris’ administration and President Tinubu’s security agenda.
They called Malami’s petition a “smear campaign designed to incite fear and restore his dwindling political relevance,” urging Nigerians to disregard it.
