The Adamawa State government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting schools from attacks and ensuring access to safe, quality education for every child in the state.
The declaration was made by the state’s Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, during an advocacy road walk held in Yola to commemorate the International Day for the Protection of Education from Attack.

The event was organized by the Education in Emergencies Working Group.

Speaking at the rally, Prof. Farauta stressed that the state government would not tolerate any disruption to education, describing learning as a fundamental right that must be safeguarded at all costs.

“The protection of education is a shared responsibility,” Farauta said.

“We are working closely with stakeholders to revamp our education system. This includes constructing new schools and renovating existing ones to create a safe and conducive learning environment for our children.”

She assured participants that the concerns and recommendations raised during the event would receive the attention of the state government, adding that no child would be left behind despite the challenges facing the sector.

Also speaking at the event, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Pella, condemned attacks on schools by insurgents and urged parents to play a more active role in defending their children’s right to education.

“Attacks on schools are attacks on the future of our children,” Dr. Pella said.

“This advocacy is a call to action to end all forms of violence and obstruction that deprive children of their right to learn.”

Dr. Pella described the commemoration as a symbolic victory over forces that aim to instill fear and erode the value of education through violence.

A student representative from EYN Primary School, Jimeta, who spoke on behalf of pupils in the state, called on the state government to prioritize education through increased investment in infrastructure, teacher support, and policy implementation.

“When schools are safe, children can dream again,” said the pupil.

“We can learn, we can play, and we can build a future that is brighter for Adamawa and for Nigeria.”

The event concluded with renewed calls for the adoption and enforcement of the national policy on safe schools to ensure that education continues unhindered, even in emergencies.
