The government of Adamawa State has confirmed that eight people have died following a suspected outbreak of Buruli ulcer in the Malabu community of Fufore Local Government Area.
Health Commissioner, Felix Tangwami shared this information with reporters on Tuesday in Yola.
He expressed the government’s deep concern and noted that some of the affected individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola.
Mr. Tangwami mentioned that samples have been collected and sent to the national reference laboratory for further analysis.

He indicated that health officials are closely monitoring the community to prevent any further spread of the suspected disease.
The commissioner assured that the state is working in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and other partners to take proactive measures to address the situation.
“Our medical team is working tirelessly to stabilize the condition of the victims,” he stated.
He added that the response measures include deploying emergency teams, conducting awareness campaigns, and providing medical supplies to the affected area.
Mr. Tangwami urged residents to stay calm, avoid panic, and practice good hygiene.
He also advised them to report any suspicious cases to health facilities and to refrain from using traditional remedies to avoid exacerbating infections.
