Gombe State has been selected as one of only three states to participate in the prestigious Sommet de l’Élevage (World Livestock Summit) scheduled to take place from October 5-11, 2025, in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
The selection announced by the National Coordinator Office of the World Bank Support Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project marks another major recognition of Governor Muhammad Yahaya’s sweeping reforms in the livestock sector.
In a formal communication to the Gombe State government, the national coordination office commended Gov. Yahaya for his “visionary leadership and unwavering commitment” to livestock transformation, citing Gombe’s exemplary implementation of the L-PRES project.
According to the National Project Coordinator, Mallam Sanusi Abubakar, the state’s performance, bolstered by effective steering and technical committees, has positioned it as a model for livestock sector reforms across the country.

At the summit, the Gombe delegation will join national and international stakeholders, including investors, policymakers, and technical experts, to explore opportunities in livestock production, trade, and innovation.
The event, Europe’s largest livestock gathering, will spotlight sustainability, value chain development, and investment prospects across the global livestock ecosystem.
Gombe’s participation comes amid a period of rapid agribusiness development under Governor Yahaya. Signature initiatives like the Gombe Agro-Livestock Development Zone, which features a modern abattoir, international livestock market, tannery, leather factory, and other key facilities, are helping to reposition the state as a livestock hub not only for Nigeria but also the wider West African region.
State officials say the summit presents a unique opportunity for Gombe to deepen global partnerships and adopt best practices that will further enhance livestock productivity, economic resilience, and inclusive growth.
