Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerian youths to harness the power of social media for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.
Speaking at the 3rd Delta State Social Media Summit on Thursday at the Maryam Babangida Leisure Park, Asaba, the governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Johnson Erijo, praised the initiative as a bold step toward positioning Delta as a hub for digital growth and economic opportunities.
With the theme “Brand Delta, Grow Delta,” the summit attracted creators, entrepreneurs, and media professionals to explore how the digital space can transform lives and communities. Oborevwori said social media had gone far beyond personal networking and now stood as a global engine for job creation, political engagement, and cultural promotion.
“The theme of this summit reflects our aspiration to tell our story to the world while creating opportunities for prosperity. Social media gives us the platform to showcase Delta’s investment opportunities, cultural heritage, and human capital to a global audience,” he said.
He urged young people to move beyond entertainment use of social platforms and embrace them as tools for content creation, entrepreneurship, and influence. According to him, the government and the State Assembly remain committed to policies that will boost digital literacy, expand technology access, and build infrastructure for a thriving online economy.
