An Edo State High Court, presided over by Justice M. Itsueli, has convicted five internet fraudsters.
The sentencing was disclosed via its official X handle on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
The defendants, James Joseph, Osamuyimen Okunbor, Osabuochien Francis, Mathew Obedience, and Samuel Friday, were prosecuted by the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under separate one-count charges.
The charges involved offenses, including obtaining money by pretense, retention of proceeds from criminal activities, and possession of fraudulent documents.

The court’s decision followed a thorough investigation that revealed the defendants had engaged in various online scams, duping unsuspecting victims by misrepresenting their identities and intentions.
Each convict received a different prison term, reflecting the court’s commitment to deterring future fraud and conveying the message that such illicit activities will not be tolerated in Edo State.
