The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on August 25 that over 1.3 million Nigerians completed the online registration for voter cards in just one week during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The online registration took place from August 18 – 24, 2025.
INEC said the registration figures showed that Lagos and Osun States had the highest participation.
Lagos had 222,205 registered people, making up about 16 percent of the total.
Osun State was even more impressive, with 393,269 pre-registrations, which is around 29 percent of the total, the highest percentage among all states.
Ogun State followed with about 132,823 registrations.
Other notable figures included the Federal Capital Territory with 107,682 registrations, Oyo with 66,951, Kaduna with 61,592, and Kogi with 58,546.
Several other states recorded significant numbers as well, including Kwara, Kebbi, and Yobe States.
In the South-South region, Delta State had 24,421 registrations, while Rivers and Akwa Ibom States followed with 11,314 and 12,373, respectively.
The numbers were lower in the South East, where Ebonyi State recorded only 261 registrations, the least in the country.
The North East showed good participation too, with Borno State recording 21,045 registrations and Yobe State standing out with 34,888.

In the North West, Kaduna State had 61,592, and Kano State also contributed with 10,166 registrations.
For the North Central region, Niger and Kogi States both recorded notable figures, while Kogi’s number was one of the highest nationwide.
INEC also announced that the next phase of registration would begin, and anyone who pre-registered online will need to go in person to officially complete their enrollment at designated centers.
This is where their identification details will be collected.
The registration exercise is open at 811 centers across the country, including all local government offices, and will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on weekdays.
Only Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above who have not registered before can participate. The commission is also ensuring that the process is accessible for persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups.
