The Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated a notorious Chinese gang leader, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to Beijing, China, after months on the run. The high-profile fugitive was apprehended in Abuja following a joint operation between the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, INTERPOL NCB Beijing, and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria.

According to a statement by the Nigeria Police, Dai Qisheng was wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for masterminding violent organized crimes and leading a notorious criminal gang. He fled China in 2024 after a warrant was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County. His escape ended on August 8, 2025, when INTERPOL operatives in Abuja tracked and arrested him after weeks of surveillance.

On August 15, 2025, the fugitive was officially repatriated to China under the framework of international police-to-police cooperation. Authorities confirmed that the successful transfer marks one of the most significant crackdowns on transnational fugitives in recent years.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the operation as a strong message to criminal networks across the globe. He emphasized that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for international fugitives, stressing the country’s commitment to strengthening global security alliances through intelligence sharing and coordinated enforcement.

“This repatriation sends a clear signal to criminals worldwide: Nigeria is not a hiding place for fugitives,” the IGP declared.

The operation has been hailed as a milestone in global crime-fighting efforts, showcasing how international partnerships and intelligence-driven policing can dismantle even the most sophisticated criminal escape plans.
