The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged eligible voters to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to correct personal details, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and collect unclaimed cards in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Bauchi State, Umar Ibrahim, made the appeal on Friday during a press briefing. He explained that the exercise, which commenced this month, is part of INEC’s preparations to ensure a credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral process.
According to Ibrahim, the voter registration exercise will include: Fresh registration for eligible Nigerians who have never registered before; Correction of personal details, such as names, dates of birth, gender, or addresses; Replacement of PVCs that are lost, defaced, or damaged; Transfer of voter registration from one location to another, either within or across states and Collection of unclaimed PVCs from the 2022 CVR across all local government areas of the state.

The REC disclosed that online pre-registration began on Monday, August 18, 2025, while physical registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, at designated INEC centres in Bauchi State.
Both processes will run simultaneously until August 30, 2026. To be eligible, an applicant must be: A Nigerian citizen; At least 18 years old; Not previously registered; Physically present for biometric capture.
Ibrahim added that the online registration portal is available 24 hours a day via cvr.inecnigeria.org, while physical registration will hold at the INEC State Office in Bauchi and at the 20 INEC Local Government Area offices across the state, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays.
The REC further noted that the Preliminary Register of Voters will be displayed quarterly for public scrutiny to allow for claims, objections, and corrections. This, he said, will ensure that only eligible voters remain on the final register.
He warned that the commission would not tolerate multiple registrations, underage registration, proxy collection of PVCs, or obstruction of INEC officials. Offenders, he stressed, will face severe penalties under the Electoral Act 2022.
“I call on all eligible Nigerians in Bauchi State to take full advantage of this opportunity. Please register, update your records where necessary, and collect your PVCs. The Commission remains fully committed to ensuring a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive voter registration process,” Ibrahim said.
