The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has shut down eight hotels in Ilorin for not having the necessary permits and not following the rules set for hotels in the area.
This decision was announced by Blessing Opadiran, the Assistant Press Secretary of the agency, on Sunday.
The operation to seal the hotels was led by Mr. Aminullahi AbdulRahman, the Head of the Department for Hotels, after the hotels received multiple warnings and notices to fix their issues.
Mr. Jide Aina, the General Manager of KWEPA, explained that this action was taken to ensure that hotels operate in a way that protects the environment and public health.
He emphasized that the goal was not to harass anyone, but rather to ensure that all hotels meet both local and international health standards.

He also mentioned that making sure hotels in the area follow the rules helps to safeguard the community, supports public health, and creates a more inviting atmosphere for visitors and investors.
KWEPA wants to work together with those in the hospitality industry to promote caring for the environment and responsible business practices in Kwara.
It also advised other hotel operators to fully meet environmental and operational regulations to avoid facing similar actions in the future.
