The Cross River State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including a village head, in connection with the murder of a herder, Idris Yakubu.

The alleged murder took place on a farm at Ugaga Community in the Yala Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, disclosed this in a statement to newsmen in Calabar.

He revealed those arrested as Chief Oko Ogar, who is the village head of Ukpochi, Joseph Ogar, David Womah, and two others.

Ugbo said that the alleged murder occurred after the herder was accused of allowing his cattle to graze on a farmland belonging to one of the suspects at Ukpochi Unit in Yala Local Government Area.

The statement added that the area command in Ogoja, upon receipt of the complaint, mobilized police officers to effect the arrest of the suspects.

Ugbo noted that discreet investigations aimed at diligent persecution are ongoing.

He, however, enjoined the public not to take the law into their hands, but rather report complaints or breaches to the appropriate authorities for swift response.
