  • Says FG will deepen business reforms, promote private sector investments

By ADAKU WALTER

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said the Toyota Service and Research facility in Lagos State will not only provide quality after-sales services, but will also be developed as a teaching, research and resource centre to provide dealers with world-class, practical hands-on training.

Osinbajo, who stated this at the commissioning of the facility in Isolo on Monday, said it was among the first of its kind in West Africa with capacity for research, training and skills upgrade. He added that the facility was built to standard specification comparable to the most sophisticated globally, with the latest best-in-class equipment and modern technology designed to deliver superior, world-class services to vehicle owners in Nigeria. The Trumpet gathered.

“I think Toyota Nigeria deserves commendation for its focus on capacity development in the automotive industry,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of the service centre in harnessing technical and engineering skills, Osinbajo noted that reducing the skills gap among the populace would further boost the nation’s industrialisation efforts.

“One of the major challenges in our industrialisation effort is the skills gap, especially middle-cadre technical and engineering skills. So, an intentional and aggressive public and private sector synergy in developing this type of capacity is crucial.

“Our work with the private sector at the Nigerian Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council underscored and honed this approach,” he said.

While commending the Managing Director of Toyota Nigeria Limited, Kunle Ade-Ojo and its board and management for the event, Osinbajo also pointed out that Toyota became Nigeria’s favourite car because of the foresight, commitment to high value and focused investments of the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Elizade Motors, Chief Michael Ade-Ojo.

Osinbajo further assured of the Federal Government’s continued efforts to deepen business reforms and partner with the private sector to engender national development in line with the objective of creating a more friendly business environment in the country.

He said: “It is important to restate that the Federal Government has committed to partnering with the private sector, recognising that the sector is better equipped and resourced to lead the development of the economy,” he added.
