The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a strong warning to officers and the general public against lobbying for special promotions, following a wave of misinformation circulating online about the recent accelerated promotion of some personnel.

In a press statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF clarified that the recently approved promotions were awarded strictly based on merit, exemplary performance, and professional excellence, not favoritism or arbitrary decisions.

“The recent exercise does not signify the commencement of a general or indiscriminate special promotion scheme,” the statement read.

The NPF noted with concern the rising number of unofficial requests and lobbying efforts being directed at the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission, following misleading reports from certain online platforms.

The Force categorically debunked media claims suggesting that arbitrary promotions were being handed out, labeling such reports as baseless, misleading, and intentional efforts to discredit the transparency of the police promotion system.

“These reports are falsehoods and should be disregarded,” the NPF emphasized, reaffirming its commitment to merit-based promotion, transparency, and adherence to due process.

The police leadership also issued a stern warning to its officers, advising them to desist from lobbying or seeking to influence the promotion process through unofficial means, stressing that such behavior is unethical and will attract disciplinary sanctions in line with existing laws and regulations.

“Such conduct undermines the principles of meritocracy and professionalism,” the Force warned.

Reiterating its position, the Nigeria Police Force assured the public and its personnel that promotions will continue to be anchored on integrity, verifiable merit, and honourable service to the nation.

The Force urged all officers and men to maintain high standards of discipline, dedication, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
