Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, received a warm welcome upon their arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
Led by Rena Wakama, the team arrived with the championship trophy and was celebrated by an enthusiastic crowd that included cultural dancers, drummers, and basketball fans, all honouring their fifth consecutive Afrobasket title.

The team headed to the Presidential Villa for an official reception with President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
Earlier, President Tinubu congratulated the team in a statement, praising their commitment, teamwork, and consistency on the continental level.
D’Tigress secured the championship by defeating Mali in the final on Sunday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, marking their dominance in African women’s basketball and making Nigeria the first nation to win five Afrobasket titles in a row.
