Cross River State Anti-Illegal Mining Committee and Taskforce has arrested no fewer than 10 illegal miners in Unyanga forest in Akakmkpa LGA.
This is part of the state government’s intensified efforts to combat environmental degradation and unauthorized exploitation of mineral resources.
Chairman of the committee, Paul Effiong, said he picked the suspects up in the morning and handed them over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

According to him, the illegal miners could not present or convince the taskforce that they were operating with licenses.
He added that the taskforce also confiscated equipment used by the suspects, warning that more enforcement actions will follow across the state.
Effiong reaffirmed the government’s zero tolerance for illegal mining.
