Chairman, South South Centre B of the House of Representative Committee on Constitution Review, Rep. Chinda Kingaley has assured the people of the zone that their views will be reflected in the amendment.

Speaking with journalists after the zonal public hearing in Calabar, Cross River State, Rep. Chinda said a time has come in the lives of members of parliament to speak for the people who elected them.

According to him, the period is now since the constitution is for the people and they, as representatives of the people will talk for the people in areas that are necessary for amendments.

He said that the committee has discussed with the people of Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States and has gotten their inputs to take it back to the National Assembly for deliberations.

The committee chairman also assured that before the end of the year, the amendment shall be concluded.

At the sitting, which took place at the Metropolitan Hotel ,Calabar, were the three states’ representatives, local government areas, communities, interest groups, youths, students groups and women across the zone.

The Chief of Staff to Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River, Emmanuel Ironbar and the Special Adviser, Special Duties, Ekpeyong Akiba, expressed their views on the creation of Ogoja State.

To them, it will bring development and help in the spread of infrastructure if the Ogoja State is created out of the present Cross River State.

There were also agitations for the creation of Obolo State from the present Akwa Ibom State with a map that featured Okobo, Iron, Urueoffong Oroko, Ibeno, Mbo, Using Uko, and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas and Andoni in Rivers State.
