Adamawa State has launched the 2025 seasonal malaria chemo prevention campaign, aiming to reach over 1.2 million children under five across all 21 local government areas in the state.

Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr. Edgar Amos, flagged off the campaign in Yola, on Friday.

She described malaria as a persistent public health threat, particularly for children aged three –59 months, who are most vulnerable during the rainy season when malaria transmission peaks.

“Malaria continues to be a major concern, especially for our children under five,” Prof. Farauta stated.

“This campaign is not just a medical intervention; it is a declaration of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and futures of our children.”

The initiative involves monthly administration of safe and effective antimalarial drugs to young children during the high transmission period.

Officials say the campaign is expected to significantly reduce malaria-related illnesses and deaths, lower hospital admissions, and boost school attendance and overall child health.

Prof. Farauta emphasized that the initiative aligns with the state’s broader health agenda, which includes increased funding for healthcare, the expansion of primary health infrastructure, and a strengthened health workforce.

“A healthy population is the foundation of a prosperous society,” she said.

“That is why we continue to invest in both preventive and curative healthcare services, providing free malaria drugs to vulnerable groups, equipping health centers, and enhancing disease surveillance.”

The deputy governor also applauded the support of international and local partners, including Malaria Consortium, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), and donor agencies for their consistent role in the fight against malaria in Adamawa State.
