The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the commencement of daily passenger train services between Jos and Bukuru, effective Monday, July 14, 2025.

This development marks the return of intra-city train operations in the state capital; decades after rail services went dormant in the region. The new service aims to provide residents with a safer, faster, and more affordable means of transportation along the Jos–Bukuru corridor.

According to an official announcement from the Plateau State Ministry of Transport, trains will operate four trips daily, with designated stops at Old Airport and Dogon Karfe stations before terminating at Jos Terminus.

The first trip of the day will depart Bukuru at 6:50 a.m., stopping at Old Airport by 7:08 a.m., Dogon Karfe at 7:16 a.m., and arriving at Jos Terminus by 7:26 a.m. The return journey in the evening will see trains leaving Jos Terminus at 4:20 p.m., stopping at Dogon Karfe by 4:28 p.m., Old Airport by 4:36 p.m., and arriving back at Bukuru by 4:56 p.m.

Authorities have advised passengers to arrive at least 10 minutes before departure to ensure smooth boarding and timely take-off. Additional trips will be introduced in subsequent weeks as demand increases and operational capacity expands.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation said the initiative reflects its commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient rail transport, aligning with the Plateau State government’s vision to modernize its transport system.

Residents and commuters in Jos have welcomed the development with optimism, hoping it will ease traffic congestion, reduce transportation costs, and boost economic activities in the metropolis.

The launch of this intra-city train service is seen as a major leap toward reviving Nigeria’s rail infrastructure and extending the benefits of modern transport to more regions across the country.
