Axel Tuanzebe, a former defender for Manchester United, is taking legal action against the club, claiming negligent medical advice.

The 27-year-old, who recently signed with Burnley, submitted a lawsuit to the high court against United last week.

The case pertains to an unspecified injury from July 2022 and is believed to involve a significant claim exceeding £1 million.

During his last season with the club, Tuanzebe was sidelined for 195 days before being loaned to Stoke in January 2023, where he made only five appearances.

Having joined United at the age of eight, he made his first-team debut in 2017 and played 37 matches for the club before leaving in the summer of 2023 to join Ipswich as a free agent in September.

The right-back served as captain at every level within the club, and his last match for United was the 2021 Europa League final against Villarreal, where he scored in the penalty shootout, but the team lost 11-10.

Tuanzebe, who previously represented England at the Under-21 level and now plays for DR Congo, also had three loan spells at Aston Villa and spent time at Napoli in 2022.

Both Tuanzebe’s legal team, Simons Muirhead Burton, and Manchester United declined to comment when contacted by reporters.
