Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed condolences to the family of the late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on Monday morning.
The governor met with members of the Olakulehin family who visited his office at the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, to officially inform him of the king’s passing.
Gov. Makinde described the loss of Oba Olakulehin as a significant sorrow for the people of Ibadan.
He promised that the state would support the family and ensure that the late Olubadan receives a proper burial.
The governor emphasized that the contributions Oba Olakulehin made to the culture and traditions of the ancient town will always be remembered.
He said that “we never want our leaders to leave us; we wish they could stay forever, but our time on earth is limited as designed by God.”
The governor assured the family and the people that the government would fulfill its responsibilities, including giving the late king a dignified farewell.
Earlier, Chief Bayo Oyero, a former leader of the Central Council of Ibadan, led the Olakulehin family to meet the governor.

He officially informed Gov. Makinde about the king’s death and thanked him for his support throughout Oba Olakulehin’s reign as Olubadan.
Oyero expressed gratitude to the governor and his administration for their role in making the king’s reign successful, saying that “despite the challenges we faced before he became king, you approved his ascension to the throne.
“We sincerely appreciate all your efforts, including organizing an impressive coronation ceremony.”
Oba Olakulehin became the 43rd Olubadan just a year ago and celebrated his 90th birthday on July 5.
