Senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their European Union (EU) counterparts are scheduled to hold talks in Abuja, from July 1-2, 2025.
The meeting aims to lay the groundwork for the forthcoming Nigeria-EU ministerial meeting, aimed at exploring and enhancing areas of mutual cooperation between Nigeria and the EU.
A press release by the spokesperson of the foreign affairs ministry, Kimiembi Ebienfa, said the meeting will be co-chaired by the ministry’s Director of Regions, Ambassador Janet Olisa, and the EU’s Deputy Managing Director for the Africa Department at the European External Action Service, Mr. Mathieu Briens
The statement said both sides during the meeting are expected to engage in wide-ranging discussions focused on various critical aspects of the Nigeria-EU partnership.

The talks will focus on cooperation on multilateral and regional issues, peace, security, and governance, humanitarian crisis, trade and investment.
Also lined up for discussion are issues relating to human development in the areas of health, education, and social protection for citizens, migration, science, technology, innovation, and digital transition, as well as energy, climate change, and green economy.
The statement added that Nigeria and the EU share a robust and long-standing partnership, rooted in mutual values and interests.
“This collaboration is characterised by a strong commitment to multilateralism and a rules-based international order, which both parties strive to uphold,” the foreign affairs ministry said.
