A tragic incident was recorded on Friday, June 27, 2025, when a tipper truck loaded with shafts and sand lost control, crashing into a bustling crowd of traders and shoppers at the Mile 6 Market in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The catastrophic event left several dead and many more injured, shocking the local community.

Eyewitnesses report that the disaster occurred shortly after one of the truck’s tyres burst, while it was navigating the busy marketplace at a high speed.

The sudden tyre failure caused the driver to lose control, leading the truck to veer off the road and plough into a densely packed area of the market, where countless stalls and shoppers were present.

“It all happened so quickly,” recounted a local vendor who witnessed the tragic scene unfold.

“The truck was moving at a terrifying speed, and once the tyre burst, the driver was unable to regain control. It was a horrifying sight as it rammed straight into people.”

Emergency responders, including police officers, paramedics, and volunteers, swiftly rushed to the scene, working diligently to rescue trapped victims and transport the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

The chaotic aftermath featured scenes of anguish as families searched for their loved ones amid the chaos.

As of the time of this report, local authorities had not yet confirmed the precise number of casualties, as teams continued to identify victims and contact their families.

The driver of the truck has been apprehended and taken into police custody, while investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances leading to the tragic accident.

In the wake of the incident, local officials have urged the community to remain calm, assuring residents that they will provide necessary support to those affected—both physically and emotionally.

The tragedy has left Jalingo in a state of shock, igniting renewed calls for the implementation of stricter road safety regulations and enforcement measures to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
