Former Togolese captain and striker Emmanuel Adebayor has named former Arsenal and Super Eagles forward Kanu Nwankwo as his idol and “god of football” in an emotional social media post.
In a message that seemed to invite comparisons between the two former Premier League players, the former Togo captain quickly put an end to such discussions.
“I urge you all, Kanu Nwankwo is my idol and my football god. So please, no comparisons are necessary. Thank you for your understanding,” Adebayor stated, as reported by Brila.
His comment has since gone viral, earning him admiration from Nigerian football fans nationwide, who praised Adebayor for his humility and respect for the Nigerian football icon.
Nwankwo, who played for Ajax, Inter Milan, and Arsenal, is one of Africa’s most celebrated footballers, having won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and Olympic gold, among other honors.
