President Bola Tinubu has commended the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike for transforming Abuja into a hub for business, housing, and investment through critical infrastructure development.

Speaking on Tuesday at the commissioning of the right-hand service carriageway of the Inter Northern Expressway (INEX) from Ring Road III to Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), also known as the Murtala Mohammed Expressway, President Tinubu praised the Wike-led FCTA for accelerating growth and development in the capital city.

Represented by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Tinubu described the newly completed road project as a “critical piece” of the Abuja Master Plan and a symbol of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at unlocking economic potential and improving the quality of life for Nigerians.

“This vital carriageway is not just a road; it is a symbol of progress and a reflection of my administration’s commitment to infrastructure that serves the people, enhances mobility, and supports sustainable development,” Tinubu said.

He noted that the INEX will ease traffic congestion, improve urban mobility, and connect key districts across the FCT, thereby unlocking opportunities for businesses, real estate, and industrial growth.

“As traffic volume increases in the FCT and satellite towns, it is imperative that we expand and maintain strategic roadways. This project facilitates safer, faster movement within Abuja and will open doors for housing and investment in adjoining districts,” Tinubu added.

The road project is one of 17 earmarked for commissioning to mark President Tinubu’s second year in office, with 10 already inaugurated.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in his remarks, revealed that the 16-kilometre road, originally awarded in 2014 at N7 billion, was completed by the Tinubu administration at N31 billion due to inflation and variation costs. He emphasized the administration’s resolve to complete abandoned projects that align with national economic objectives.

“This is the industrial corridor of Abuja. The nearby Industrial Park had stalled until the Tinubu administration revived it. Once completed, it will generate 40,000 direct jobs. This is what infrastructure can do—stimulate growth and solve unemployment,” Wike said.

He thanked President Tinubu for his unwavering support and vowed to continue delivering under the Renewed Hope Agenda for the benefit of Abuja residents and the country.

Also speaking at the event, FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a reflection of the administration’s people-centered governance and dedication to national progress.

“The INEX project symbolizes our collective commitment to a connected, thriving Nigeria under President Tinubu,” Mahmoud stated.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr Richard Dauda, said the INEX expressway is designed as a 32.5-kilometre, 10-lane highway stretching from Maitama to ONEX. He explained that the full project will eventually include dual three-lane main carriageways and two-lane service roads on each side.

Dauda noted that the expressway is being developed in stages, with the first phase covering the section between Ring Road II and Ring Road III, and the second—now inaugurated—connecting to ONEX via Wuye, Dakibiyu, and the Idu Industrial District.
