Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has reaffirmed the vital role of the Nigerian Army in maintaining peace and stability, describing military readiness as a non-negotiable pillar of national security.
Speaking during the official flag-off of the 2025 Warrant Officers (WOs) and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) Competition at the 23 Brigade Headquarters in Yola, Fintiri, represented by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, commended the Nigerian Army for its unflinching dedication to safeguarding lives and securing the state.
He praised the professionalism of the 23 Brigade troops, stressing that training programs like the WOs and SNCOs competition are crucial for enhancing operational performance and sustaining public confidence in the military.
“Military preparedness is far beyond ceremonial display. It is a strategic necessity that directly supports the safety, stability, and prosperity of our nation,” Governor Fintiri declared.

The governor noted that the annual military contest reflects the Nigerian Army’s core values of discipline, teamwork, endurance, and resilience,qualities he said are indispensable in combating the nation’s rising security threats.
Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, Commander of the 23 Brigade, who spoke on behalf of the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General EF Oyinlola, emphasized the importance of mission-driven training and combat efficiency.
He said the competition is not merely about physical ability but a demonstration of unity, professionalism, and readiness to confront both present and future challenges.
“This competition is a clear signal of our commitment to building a force that is physically capable, mentally sharp, and emotionally resilient,” Brigadier General Agwu stated.
The 2025 WOs and SNCOs competition features a series of intense military drills, including combat swimming, obstacle crossing, weapon handling, map reading, and team-based endurance exercises. The goal is to sharpen tactical instincts, foster leadership among mid-level officers, and reinforce unit cohesion across formations.
