Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has applauded the resilience and compassion shown by the Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, describing these traits as instrumental in his ability to lead with humility and bring meaningful progress to his people.

The Governor offered this tribute during a thanksgiving service held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Bonny Island, on Wednesday, as part of the events marking the King’s 60th birthday celebration.

He remarked that the King’s journey to this milestone has not been without difficulty, but acknowledged that it is through divine support and personal strength that he has reached this point.

Governor Fubara expressed his hope that the monarch’s tenure would be remembered as a time of positive transformation and enduring benefit to both the people and the kingdom.

He emphasized that leadership is not merely about holding power but about serving with integrity and spiritual reverence. According to him, the King’s dedication to his community, underpinned by his faith, has been the foundation of his success.

Speaking about the political landscape in Rivers State, the Governor noted that although his administration has encountered turbulence, it has remained steady and continues to deliver development because it relies on divine strength. He encouraged the people not to lose hope but to remain firm, assuring them that lasting success will be achieved in due time.

The Governor also expressed appreciation to the people of Bonny, the larger Rivers community, and Nigerians in general for their continued support and prayers. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making a measurable impact on the lives of citizens.

In his own address during the service, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III extended his heartfelt gratitude to his family, the people of Bonny, and all residents for their constant loyalty and prayers. He also thanked Governor Fubara and other dignitaries, traditional rulers, and leaders who came to honour him.

The monarch reiterated his commitment to fostering a peaceful, united, and prosperous Bonny Kingdom. He stated that with divine guidance and the collective efforts of the people, the kingdom would continue to uphold its values and build a brighter future. He viewed the birthday celebration not just as a personal milestone, but as a reaffirmation of the people’s unity, cultural identity, and shared vision for progress.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, Bishop of the Niger Delta Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), who delivered the sermon, centered his message around scriptural themes of wisdom, gratitude, and legacy. He commended the King for his wise and impactful leadership, which has brought positive change to the Grand Bonny Kingdom.

The event concluded with the presentation of commemorative gifts and the ceremonial cutting of the 60th birthday cake, joined by Governor Fubara and other well-wishers.
