The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly distanced itself from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, stating that the lawmaker acted in his personal capacity and not on behalf of the party.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Sterling Urakpa, the Abia APC made it clear that Kalu’s commendation of the Labour Party (LP)-led government contradicts the party’s official stance on governance in the state.
“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s visit to Governor Alex Otti was a personal engagement. It does not reflect the position or endorsement of the Abia State APC,” the statement read.
Urakpa reiterated that the APC maintains a critical view of the current administration in Abia, describing the LP government as plagued by “unresolved conflicts of interest, a troubling lack of transparency, and the concealment of project costs and contract details.”
The party emphasized that its position had been clearly articulated by State Chairman Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu during the recent launch of the Renewed Hope Partners in Bende Local Government Area on May 28, 2025.
Issuing a stern warning against future incidents of what it termed “political fraternisation,” the APC leadership reminded members that any attempt to leverage the party platform for personal political gains would not be tolerated.

“We will not tolerate a repeat of the 2023 betrayal where party discipline was sacrificed for personal gain,” the statement declared.
Urakpa called on party executives at both ward and local government levels—especially those in the constituencies of Senator Kalu and Senator Chris Adighije—to remain vigilant in defending the party’s integrity.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to enforcing internal discipline, Urakpa said the APC is determined to present a united front capable of reclaiming power in Abia State during the 2027 general elections.
“Let it be known that no amount of political posturing or unmerited praise for the Labour Party government will distract us. We are focused on delivering victory in 2027 and aligning Abia State with the APC-led federal government,” he asserted.
In his statement, Urakpa also appealed to the people of Abia to critically assess the performance of Governor Otti’s administration. He argued that public applause for the current government is misplaced, given what he described as underwhelming results despite considerable federal support.
“Abians must learn to compare their state’s performance with others. The fanfare surrounding less work achieved with much federal support only highlights what has been lost under the Labour Party government,” Urakpa said.
“Abians deserve more than clapping with one hand.”
