The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a major consignment of loud, a potent strain of cannabis, smuggled into Nigeria, and disguised as green tea at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives seized 66 parcels of loud cannabis weighing 62.20kg on Thursday, June 5, 2025, said Femi Babafemi, Director, Media & Advocacy in a statement issued on Sunday.
He explained that the shipment had arrived via an Emirates Airlines flight from Thailand through the UAE on May 11.
Babafemi said the agency had placed the consignment under surveillance for more than three weeks before conducting a joint examination with other stakeholders.
Also, the NDLEA said in a separate operation in Lagos, its operatives intercepted a 1,665kg haul of skunk, another strain of cannabis, along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway on Monday, June 2.
It disclosed that two suspects, Gidado Ayinde and Obanla Oluwafemi, were arrested at the scene.
Similarly, the anti-narcotics agency added that it recorded significant breakthroughs in Kaduna and Edo States.
“On Tuesday, June 3, NDLEA officers in Kaduna arrested 29-year-old Goodluck Nnaemeka along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
“He was found in possession of 612 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 2,970 pills of flunitrazepam. That same day, they apprehended Kabiru Musa (aka KB), a 52-year-old wanted drug dealer, recovering 25.7kg of skunk from his base in Kurmin Mashi.
“In Edo State, a routine stop-and-search along the Auchi Road led to the discovery of 9kg of loud cannabis hidden in the spare tyre compartment of a Volkswagen Audi station wagon driven by Atari Israel, aged 45,” the agency said.
