Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 5, comprising Edo and Delta, Salma Dogo-Garba, has ordered massive deployment of personnel to worship centres and other public places ahead of the Eid-El-Kabir celebration in the zone.

The order is contained in a statement by SP Tijani Momoh, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO) and made available to the media on Thursday.

According to the statement, the deloyment should also be targeted at routes linking the zone with others as well as highways, motor parks, critical infrastructure and vulnerable points.

He said it was also in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to all Commissioners of Police across State Commands and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to ensure public safety and security at EID Prayer grounds, recreational centres and other vulnerable points.

The statement reads in part, “As part of efforts to guarantee a hitch-free celebration, the Commissioners of Police of Delta and Edo commands must ensure visibility policing, crowd control and implementation of robust Anti-crime prevention and control strategies in their respective commands for adequate security of lives and properties.

“They are to strengthen security in the entire linking roads, entry and exit points, highways, city centres and other strategic locations in their areas of responsibility.

m mindful of the increase in volume of traffic occasioned by the construction of fly over bridges within the metropolis as well as people traveling for the Sallah holidays.

“Therefore there should be massive deployment of personnel for traffic control duties with a view to easing traffic congestion during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration” .

The AIG who further warned Policemen to be professional in the discharge of their constitutional duties implored members of the public, especially travelers and other road users to cooperate with Police personnel deployed on the highways and other duty posts across the zone.

While wishing the Muslim ummah and other residents in the zone a happy Eid-El-Kabir celebration, the AIG urged every resident in the zone to be security conscious, vigilant and report any incidents, suspicious persons or movements observed within their neighborhood to the nearest Police station.
