Following an intense showdown in the Durumi Super League 6.1, the tournament’s officials have rescheduled the eagerly awaited finals to Saturday, June 14.
The postponement, the tournament organizers said is due to the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration and holidays.
The match on Saturday, May 31, proved to be more challenging than those prior, as all teams put in significant efforts against their competitors, not wanting to fall short of their potential with the finals approaching.
“It’s been a tough day for Edu Wolves; we faced difficulties, it wasn’t our finest performance, the game was quite challenging.
“With Soso Lions, Goshen’s gaining an edge over the others, quest for maximum points gives us hope. I’m thrilled with the direction of the tournament.
“Every day, the competition grows increasingly tough. We will intensify our efforts and be more ready for the finals,” stated Chinedu Anyaegbu, the manager of Edu Wolves.
The team manager and player Allen Foxes expressed joy at rising to the top of the standings with 18 points.
“It feels amazing; winning is always rewarding. During my last interview, I mentioned we needed that spark to secure one or two victories, which would allow us to bounce back. We are thrilled today.
“We’ve managed to gather eight points, adding to our existing 18 points, placing us in a third position. We are beginning to envision possibilities.
“With only six points separating us in third from the team in first, we are realistically considering the chance of winning the tournament from this point onward.”
Soso Lions achieved a notable score of 24, emerging as the leaders in total points, while Goshen White Tigers collected 22 points second lead.
Conversely, the ambitious Allen Foxes, recently lagging, have accumulated 18 points, which puts Edu Wolves, once the top scorers, level at 18 points.

Bassey Sparrows finished at the bottom with just 15 points, suffering from a red card issued to defender Bassey Eyenunou.
Eyenunou said he believed the red card was unjust but accepted the referee’s decision.
“I thought someone was positioned before me, but the referee insisted I was the last man. I had no choice but to comply.”
“The red card has impacted our team morale. I’m aware we may not capture the trophy, but we still aim to climb the rankings,” he said.
In what turned into an accolade of the championship to recognize chosen contenders following the games, Allen Iyoyojie from Allen Foxes earned the title of team manager of the week, while Willisms Soji, from Soso Lions, returned home with the award for king of the week.
