Abeokuta High Court has sentenced two(2) men to death by hanging, while a third accomplice will serve 21 years in prison with hard labor, following a violent robbery that left the community in shock.
Justice Olugboyega Ogunfowora of the Abeokuta High Court delivered the verdict on Monday, condemning Wale Adedeji and Akeem Sulaimon to death, while sentencing Wahabi Idowu to a lengthy prison term for attempted murder in addition to armed robbery.
According to the court, the three men were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of orchestrating a brutal armed robbery on October 29, 2018, at around 12:30 a.m. The trio had stormed the residence of Mr. Rasheed Fajinmi on Merroy Road in Abeokuta, wielding knives and a cutlass in a premeditated attack that nearly cost their victim his life.
During the terrifying ordeal, the gang not only attempted to murder Mr. Fajinmi but also made away with his Ford Jeep, four mobile phones, two ATM cards, clothing, jewelry, a 32-inch television, and a sum of N64,000. The violence didn’t stop there. The robbers also targeted Miss Boluwatife Fajinmi, stealing her smartphone and other personal belongings.

Presiding over the case, Justice Ogunfowora declared that the evidence presented by the prosecution was overwhelming and credible, leaving no room for doubt. He stated that all three men were culpable for conspiracy and armed robbery, handing each of them a 14-year sentence for those charges.
However, it was Idowu’s additional involvement in attempted murder that earned him the separate 21-year sentence, highlighting the gravity of the crimes committed that night.
The prosecution, led by Mrs. Bolariwa Adebowale, painted a vivid picture of horror, describing how the victims were left traumatized and how the robbers’ actions flagrantly violated the laws governing safety and human rights in Ogun State.
