Oyo State has promised to reward medal-winning athletes at the 22nd National Sports Festival, holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mrs. Wasilat Adegoke, who made the promise, explained that the state government is offering instant cash rewards to motivate athletes who have already won medals and to encourage those who are still competing in their events.
She emphasised that this immediate cash reward is separate from a larger reward that Governor Seyi Makinde will announce for all medalists, athletes, and officials after the festival concludes.
“This is our approach. We want to set an example as a leading state. Our governor has a history of rewarding athletes, not just during this festival but also after events like the Commonwealth Games,” Adegoke explained.

The cash rewards include N20,000 for gold medalists, N10,000 for silver medalists, and N5,000 for bronze medalists.
These rewards are aimed at inspiring and encouraging athletes throughout the competition.
Adegoke mentioned that all registered athletes in Abeokuta have already received their allowances, and she praised their contributions to the state’s success in the medal standings.
She reassured the public that the governor is committed to supporting and celebrating the athletes.
“We will continue to honor and reward our athletes generously,” she said.
