A Chief Magistrate Court II sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand in prison custody of five suspects over the alleged murder of a man during a violent attack at a party in Mubi South Local Government Area of the state.

Presided over by Magistrate M.A. Adamu, the court remanded the suspects, Timothy Hassan, Iliya Kwada, Markus Ezra, Joel Michael, and Lukman Shuaibu, in a custodial facility and adjourned the case until June 3, 2025, for further mention.

The defendants were arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, illegal possession of weapons, mischief, and culpable homicide all in violation of Sections 60, 218, 69, 318, and 191 of the Adamawa State Penal Code, 2018 (as amended).

According to the first information report, the suspects allegedly armed themselves with dangerous weapons and stormed a party at Wuro Barka in Mubi South on May 4, 2025.

Prosecutor Inspector, Hamza Abdullahi told the court that the group attacked two men, Bamanga Yakubu and Okacha Adamu, beating and matcheting them, and damaging their motorcycle.

Both victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital in Mubi.

However, Bamanga Yakubu was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The prosecutor also said that a cache of weapons, including a locally made single-barrel gun, machetes, sticks, and iron rods, were recovered from the accused persons.

While the first, third, and fifth defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, the second and fourth admitted guilt.
