Social media users particularly X (formerly Twitter) are reacting to President Donald Trump’s order that aimed to stop federal funding for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). This move has caused a stir because it comes from concerns that some officials believe these organizations show bias in their reporting.

The president’s order directs all government agencies to stop giving direct financial support to NPR and PBS. It also encourages them to look for other ways to fund these broadcasters, which could change the future of public media in the U.S.

In response to the decision, one user, @nikosunity, commented, “This isn’t really about saving money. It’s about silencing one of the few news sources left that tries to be fair and accountable. They can still find billions for the military and tax cuts, but they want to cut support for education and journalism. That doesn’t make sense.”

Another user, @VesperAegis, added, “This is really disappointing. Of all the major media outlets, PBS and NPR provide some of the best educational content and spark curiosity. They have shows on science, nature, children’s programs, and history that are truly valuable.”

On the flip side, @voltronworld stated, “It’s about time this happened. PBS and NPR used to be respected, but many people think they’ve shifted away from unbiased news and now lean more towards certain political views. They seem to support the Democratic Party more than they used to, which makes their standards seem lower. Cutting their public funding was overdue.”

Lastly, @thetroyes pointed out, “PBS was a great idea when there were only a few TV channels. Now that we have so many channels and streaming options, it seems unnecessary to keep funding it. It’s time to move on.”
