The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has denied knowledge of the fraudulent messages targeting candidates registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Wednesday in Abuja, warned that these misleading communications are being sent by scammers aiming to deceive unsuspecting individuals.
The fraudsters have manipulated the UTME’s numerical identifier, 8863, and combined it with a fake sort code resembling JAMB’s official messaging system.
According to the statement, the scammers falsely claim to have detected issues with candidates’ JAMB details and urged recipients to contact certain individuals for assistance in resolving these non-existent problems.
Dr. Benjamin emphasised that these fraudulent messages are not legitimate, stating that security agencies are investigating the scammers.
He strongly advised candidates to disregard such fraudulent messages, highlighting that this tactic is commonly used by fraudsters during examination periods to exploit innocent candidates.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and carefully scrutinise any communication that does not originate from JAMB’s official channels.
