Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has broken his silence over a viral claim by Senator Ned Nwoko, describing the allegation that he plans to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as baseless and laughable.

Oborevwori, through the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, dared Senator Nwoko to publicly provide evidence supporting his sensational claim. According to Oghenesivbe, the governor has never expressed any intention to defect and remains firmly rooted in the PDP.

The controversy erupted over the weekend when Senator Ned Nwoko, who recently defected from the PDP to the APC, alleged during a political gathering in Agbor that Governor Oborevwori was plotting to join the APC.

Speaking to a crowd during the official defection ceremony of Delta Unity Group members, Nwoko boldly claimed, “Oborevwori wants to come to the APC, but tell him to stay where he is. He will be defeated. We don’t want him in the APC.”

This statement quickly went viral, stirring political tension across the state. But the governor’s camp has dismissed the allegation as a desperate attempt to stay relevant.

In a reaction that has since sparked intense online discussions, Dr. Oghenesivbe stated: “We don’t have time for Ned Nwoko. Both myself and Commissioner Charles Aniagwu have addressed this issue before. Governor Oborevwori is not defecting. Did Governor Sheriff ever tell Nwoko he’s joining the APC? Journalists should be asking Nwoko where he got his information. If the governor didn’t approach him, why is he claiming Sheriff isn’t welcome in the APC? The whole thing doesn’t make sense.”

As the political drama unfolds, all eyes remain on Delta State, with analysts saying the unfolding war of words could shape the next phase of political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
