The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued two students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), who were kidnapped from their residence on Sunday, March 30.
The students, identified as Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, were abducted during an attack on a student lodge behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia, around 9:20 pm.
“The swift response of security operatives led to their safe recovery after an intense gunfight with the kidnappers,” according to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, while confirming the rescue in a statement on Tuesday.
He explained that upon receiving the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, ordered operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division, Lafia, to track down the abductors using technical intelligence.
“The police team successfully located the kidnappers in a forest near the 500 Housing Unit along Doma Road. Upon sighting the rescue team, the kidnappers engaged them in a gun battle but were eventually overpowered by police firepower.

“The assailants fled in different directions, abandoning the victims, who were subsequently rescued unhurt.
“During the operation, one suspect, identified as Ibrahim Musa from Abuni Village in Awe Local Government Area, was apprehended at the scene.
According to Nansel, Musa has made a valuable confession and is assisting with ongoing investigations.
He said the state commissioner of police commended the anti-kidnapping unit for their dedication and swift response in ensuring the safety of the victims.
The police spokesman reiterated the command’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the state, and urged officers to remain resolute in their mission to protect lives and property.
