Governor Monday Okpebholo is making significant strides in road infrastructure development across Edo State, delivering on his campaign promises to enhance road connectivity and boost economic activities. With key projects underway, residents are witnessing a transformation in road networks that had long suffered neglect.

The Edo State Ministry of Works recently confirmed the completion of the Ogbewaise link roads in Ogbe Community, Benin City, a long-overdue project that is now easing movement for residents in Oredo Local Government Area. This milestone reflects the government’s commitment to improving road access and fostering local trade.

In Ugbiyoko, the long-abandoned Catholic Charismatic Renewal Road is undergoing a major facelift with drainage construction and a retention pond to manage heavy rainfall. The 1.4 km road, once impassable, is now a priority project aimed at mitigating flood risks and ensuring accessibility for commuters.

Temboga Road, a crucial 4.5 km stretch linking Lucky Way, is also receiving much-needed attention after years of erosion damage left it nearly unusable. Reconstruction efforts are in full swing, addressing the erosion problem that has long disrupted businesses and daily life in the area.

Similarly, the ongoing drainage and road construction at Ewah Road will bring relief to residents battling erosion. With a well-structured drainage system channeling water to the Ikpoba River, homes and properties in the region will finally be protected from devastating floods.

One of the biggest projects under Governor Okpebholo’s administration is the 4.7 km Uteh Palace Road project in Benin City. Workers have already completed 1.6 km of drainage as part of preparations for full-scale road construction. According to Project Manager Engr. Tomiwa Atoyebi of Mutual Commitment Company (MCC), the project, which commenced in February 2025, is set for completion within 12 months. He assured residents that all necessary groundwork, including drainage and foundation work, is progressing on schedule.

Perhaps the most ambitious undertaking is Edo State’s first flyover bridge at Ramat Park in Benin City. The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is leading the project, which was flagged off in November 2024. Engr. Nosakhare Ikhinmwingboe, the company’s Safety Manager and Site Engineer, revealed that 20 percent of the 480-metre bridge has been completed. Designed as a dual carriageway connecting Ring Road to Agbor Road, the flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion and modernize the state’s transport network.

Ikhinmwingboe reassured the public that the project would be completed within the stipulated 18-month timeline, with work continuing even during the rainy season. He emphasized that the flyover would be a game-changer, significantly improving traffic flow and demonstrating the government’s commitment to prudent investment in infrastructure.

Governor Okpebholo’s administration is proving that road infrastructure is not just a campaign promise but a reality in Edo State. With these ambitious projects, the government is paving the way for sustainable development, improved mobility, and economic growth for the people of Edo.
