Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have intercepted 488 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition concealed inside palm oil-filled jerrycans, and arrested a suspect in connection with the illegal arms shipment.
The suspect, Nuhu Aminu, from Katsina State, was apprehended on March 24, 2025, at the Nyanya Motor Park, following a tip-off and collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The police revealed that the ammunition was cleverly hidden inside two 25-litre jerrycans, filled with palm oil in an attempt to evade security checks.
During interrogation, Aminu confessed that he was recruited by one Yakubu Kachalla from Funtua, Katsina State, who paid him ₦100,000 to pick up the ammunition from an unnamed contact in Nasarawa State and deliver it to Katsina.
