The Lagos State Government has announced a two-month temporary closure of the Independence/Mekwen Bridge, which is part of the route inbound to Marina/CMS, starting from March 19 to May 26, 2025.
This announcement was conveyed on Sunday, by the state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who stated that the section of the road from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), through Bonny Camp Bridge to Independence Bridge, will be closed to all vehicles during the emergency repairs.
While the Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge service lane leading to Independence Bridge will not be accessible, the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe will remain open for traffic.

Motorists traveling to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way are advised to take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue to Akin Adesola Street, then continue to Falomo Roundabout and connect to Obafemi Awolowo Road to reach Ring Road.
According to the statement, those heading to the 3rd Mainland Bridge should also follow the route via Ozumba Mbadiwe, Akin Adesola Street, and Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road, leading to Ring Road.
For drivers headed to Inner Marina and CMS, the diversion is similarly routed through Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue and Akin Adesola Street, with connections to Falomo Roundabout, Obafemi Awolowo Road, and J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road.
The commissioner assured the public that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be actively managing traffic in the impacted areas throughout the repair period.
