The Progressive Students Movement (PSM), a pan-African students’ movement, says the recent defection threats by some members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) are ploys at distracting President Bola Tinubu.
President of PSM, Comrade Bestman Okereafor, in a statement on Wednesday in Enugu, said that the recent political development is also aimed at getting political appointments by arm-twisting the Tinubu government.
Okereafor, however, warned that no matter the remote reasons behind the recent political pressure on Tinubu, “political power will remain in Southern Nigeria beyond 2027.
“The attention of PSM Nigeria has been drawn to recent political intrigues in the country involving some well -known beneficiaries of the APC decamping to a minority party as well as defection threats by some other relegated actors.
“As progressives, we consider these moves and calls as mere ploys to distract President Bola Tinubu, who has been working hard to fix all sectors of the country.
“Whether the recent political development is aimed at getting political appointments or any other remote considerations; it should be noted that such threats hold no water.

“It is clear that political power will remain in southern Nigeria beyond 2027.”
He expressed the optimism that very soon, Nigerians will heave a sigh of relief courtesy of President Tinubu’s positive plans for the country.
In another development, Okereafor commended President Tinubu for swiftly inaugurating the National Youth Conference planning committee.
He noted that the conference, which will bring together youth leaders across the country, would help youths, the real future of the nation, to chat a positive way forward for the country.
