Two teachers at Ibru College, Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have been suspended, after being found guilty of fighting within the school premises.

The school’s disciplinary committee, in its report, condemned the fight as a violation of professional ethics, and imposed a series of penalties on the teachers involved, Mr. Agofure R. and Mr. Etuh G.

It would be recalled that the video of the two teachers fighting went viral on Monday, March 3, 2025, drawing strong criticism from parents and educators alike.

As part of their immediate punishment, the teachers have been ordered to clean the staff toilets for one month.

Additionally, both educators have been recommended for transfer to other public schools, a move aimed at maintaining discipline at the secondary school.

Beyond the school’s sanctions, the duo has been directed to report to the Ughelli Zonal Office of the Delta State Post- Primary Education Board, for further interrogation regarding the incident.

However, pending a final decision by the board, the teachers have been suspended from duty.

Also, one of the teachers, Mr. Etuh G. has been ordered to vacate his official quarters, within the school compound within a month.

Confirming the decision, the school’s Principal, Mr. Akporube L.O., emphasized that Ibru College, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct among staff.

He reiterated the importance of discipline, and professionalism in the teaching profession, stating that the institution will not condone any behaviour that undermines ethical standards.

Reacting to the incident, a Senior Lecturer at the Southern Delta University, Dr. Precious Omoruwou, condemned the action of the teachers, attributing it to faulty recruitment process in engaging educators.

She called for continuous training, and retraining of educators, pointing out that they are supposed to be moulders, and role models to those they teach.

She added that educators must not be allowed to behave in an uncivil manner, but should hold very high standards of discipline as their actions, and inactions hava a direct impact in shaping society in its entirety.
