The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its fight against crime, leading to the arrest of 300 suspects, and the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and hard drugs.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, who announced this in Abuja, on Wednesday, said the suspects were arrested in high-impact raids carried out from January 1 – February 28, 2025, targeting criminal hideouts across the FCT.
He said the police, through specialized tactical teams, conducted coordinated raids in high-risk areas, including Dei-Dei, Karu, Gwarinpa, Jikwoyi, Karmo, and Maitama.
Also, additional clearance operations were carried out in villages, and communities bordering the FCT, where criminals were suspected to be operating.
Disu added that abandoned buildings, used by criminals as hideouts were also identified, with plans put in place for continuous monitoring and raids.
“In a major offensive against kidnapping, the anti-kidnapping unit launched operations in bandit-prone areas, including, FCT-Kaduna border, Gidan-Dogo Village, and Kweri Forest, FCT-Niger Forest, Gauraka Forest, and FCT-Nasarawa Forest, as well as Sardauna Forest.

“During these operations, seven kidnappers were neutralized, while several others were arrested, significantly disrupting their activities.
“A breakdown of the arrests revealed that 59 armed robbers were apprehended, 10 kidnappers and their informants arrested, nine armed robbers neutralized, seven kidnappers neutralized, and 16 cultists arrested
“Recovered weapons and items include, 18 AK-47 rifles, and 23 AK-47 magazines, nine English pistols and seven pistol magazines, 102 rounds of .9mm live ammunition, and 116 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, several locally made firearms, cutlasses, daggers, and axes, large quantities of drugs, including codeine, marijuana, and Rohypnol as well as the sum of ₦35, 050,” the police commissioner said.
Disu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, and ensuring public safety.
He commended officers who took part in all the operations for their bravery, and urged residents to support the police by reporting suspicious activities.
“All suspects in custody will be thoroughly investigated, and prosecuted,” he assured.
