Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents of his commitment to upholding the rule of law following the Supreme Court’s recent judgments on the state’s political crisis.
In a statewide broadcast on Sunday, the governor acknowledged that while his administration disagrees with the rulings, it remains bound by the court’s decisions. He reaffirmed that his government has always operated within constitutional limits and has never deliberately violated the rule of law.
Governor Fubara revealed that his legal team expects to receive the certified true copies of the judgments by March 7, 2025. Once received, the government will thoroughly examine the rulings and implement them without hesitation to ensure progress in the state.

In response to the court’s stance against caretaker committees for local governments, Fubara ordered the immediate takeover of all 23 local government councils by their respective Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs). He also directed outgoing local government chairmen to hand over power to the HLGAs by Monday, March 3, 2025.
