Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared that he has resumed his former position in the assembly, deepening the leadership crisis rocking the assembly.
Obasa made this statement on Thursday, after arriving at the House of Assembly complex with security details from the police, and the Department of State Service (DSS) for the first time since his removal on January 13, 2025.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the speaker of the assembly,” Obasa announced.
His return has sparked concerns over an ongoing leadership tussle, as reports indicate that all security aides attached to Speaker Mojisola Meranda have been withdrawn.
This development has left her without official protection, raising questions about her safety, amid the crisis.
Videos obtained on Thursday, show Obasa entering the assembly with a team of security personnel, including police officers.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Obasa’s security details had been restored ahead of his return to the assembly.
A source close to Meranda, confirmed the withdrawal of her security details, stating that “all the speaker’s security aides have been withdrawn. The House of Assembly’s security details have also been withdrawn, leaving her vulnerable.”
Meranda’s spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor, also confirmed the development, adding that “we don’t know why the authorities have done that, but all the police officers and other security details attached to her have been withdrawn. She’s on her own at the moment.”
