World number 139 Cristina Busca defeated fourth-seeded Alize Cornet in the opening round of the Open 6eme Sens Metropole in Lyon, France.
The Spanish, who joined the competition through a qualifying match, got the biggest win of her career against the French.
Busca in her entire career had never won a match against a player ranked above 50 but saw off Cornet 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 in Lyon.

The French Cornet ranked 37 in the world, was only able to fend off 5 of the 11 breakpoints on her serve while Busca garnered 10 of her 15 breakpoints without getting any aces and six double faults.
In another development, British qualifier Kati Boulter recovered from a first-set loss to defeat six-seeded Croatian Ana Konjuh 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 in the first-round match.
Also, Hungarian Anna Bordar, Russain Varvara Gracheva, and Swiss Stefanie Voegele also progressed with fifth-seeded Jasmine Paolini of Italy who had lost the first-set, recovered to defeat Romanian Irna Maria Bara 4-6, 5-7, 6-3.
